Appointments & visits

Appointments
Call reception on 01534 733322, or book a routine doctor appointment yourself through Patient Access once we have set you up for online access. Specialist clinics and nurse appointments are booked over the phone.
-
Home visits
Yes, when getting to the surgery is genuinely difficult. Ring before 10am if you need a visit that day, and a doctor will usually call you back first to work out what you need.
We would rather see you at the surgery if you can get here at all. There is more we can do in a consulting room, with the equipment and the space to examine you properly. The building has full disabled access, and there are wheelchairs at reception if you ask for one.
If you need a visit today
Telephone the surgery before 10am. A doctor will most probably ring you back first, to assess whether a home visit is what you need.
Routine visits
Housebound patients are offered routine visits by their own doctor, at a time that suits you both.
What a home visit costs
A home visit is charged at a higher rate than a surgery appointment, and a visit arranged the same day costs more than a planned one. Both are on the price list, along with what you pay if you hold a valid Jersey health card.
In an emergencyDial 999, or 112, for an ambulance. Do not wait for a call back.

Chaperone policy
Yes, at any consultation, examination or procedure, and you do not have to give a reason. A chaperone can be a family member or friend, or a trained member of staff. Tell us when you book if you can, so nothing is delayed.
-
Texting service
We can text you a reminder before an appointment, and you can cancel it by replying. Give reception your mobile number to switch it on. It is not available to anyone under the age of 16.
Appointment reminders can be sent to your mobile. The reminder also lets you cancel the appointment by text, so a time you cannot use goes back to another patient.
Switching it on
We need the right number on your record. Give it to reception, tell us at your next appointment, or send it to us with your name and date of birth through the contact form.
Under 16sThis facility does not apply to anyone under the age of 16.
Stopping the reminders
If you would rather not receive them, tell reception and we will turn them off.
-
Out of hours
Call the surgery on 01534 733322 at any hour and you will reach JDOC, the Jersey Doctor On Call service at the hospital. Please keep it for emergencies and serious concerns. In an emergency dial 999 or 112.

-
Fees and payments
An adult surgery consultation is £96.28, of which the health benefit covers £50.28, so you pay £46.00 with a valid Jersey health card. Children under 18 are seen at no charge. Every fee is on the price list.
Prescriptions & pharmacy
-
Repeat prescriptions
Order through the form on our repeat prescriptions page, by phone after 11am, by email, or through Patient Access. Allow 48 hours. Anything urgent or needed the same day has to be arranged by phone.
Registering & forms
-
Medical forms
Leave the form at the reception desk and allow five working days for a doctor or team member to complete it before you collect it. There is a fee, and it depends on the type of form.
Forms that need a doctor’s or a team member’s attention can be left at the reception desk. Allow five working days for completion before you come back for it.
What it costs
There is a fee for completing a form or writing a report, and it depends on what is being asked for. Reception will tell you what yours will be before the work is done.
Before you leave it with us
- Fill in every part of the form that is yours to complete
- Attach anything the form asks you to send with it
- Tell us if there is a deadline, so we can say whether five working days will meet it
- Leave a contact number, so we can reach you if something is unclear
-
Email consent
You can ask us to email your test results to you. It needs your signed consent first: ask reception for the email consent form, read the terms it sets out, and return it to us signed.
The practice can send your test results to you by email once you have given written consent. Ask reception for the email consent form, or request one by phone, and return it to us signed.
What you are agreeing to
- Transmission of results by email may not be secure, and we cannot guarantee the information while it is in transit
- We cannot enter into further email conversation about a result. Anything beyond the result itself needs a face to face or telephone consultation
- It is your responsibility to keep your email address up to date with the surgery
- The service runs indefinitely until you tell us to stop it
Read the full terms firstThe consent form sets out the terms and conditions in full. Please read them before you sign.
Stopping the service
Tell the surgery if you would like us to stop emailing your results. Unless you do, it is assumed that the service will run indefinitely.

Test results
Routine blood and urine tests take about 3 working days, specialised bloods 10 days, imaging reports 7-14 days , and cervical smears 2 to 4 weeks. Please book an appointment to go through any result rather than asking at the desk unless your GP has agreed to contact you with the result.
It is important that you know the result of a test you have had, so that anything it shows can be acted on quickly. The guide below is how long each kind of test usually takes to come back.
How long results take
Test Usually ready in Routine blood and urine tests Usually ready in3 working days Specialised blood tests Usually ready in10 working days X-ray, scanning and imaging reports Usually ready in7- 14 working days Cervical smears Usually ready in2 to 4 weeks Going through your result
You are encouraged, whatever the result or report, to come in and discuss what it means. It keeps your information confidential and avoids confusion: our receptionists are not medically trained and cannot interpret a finding for you.
Results by email
You can ask us to email or SMS your results to you instead. It needs your written consent first, and we cannot enter into further discussion of a result by email once it has been sent.

Compliments and complaints
Write to the Practice Manager at the surgery, or email healthplus@healthplus.gpnet.je. We acknowledge a complaint within 7 working days and aim to respond within 40. Compliments and suggestions are just as welcome.
Health Plus is committed to delivering a quality service at all times, but we accept that occasionally things go wrong. If you are dissatisfied with any part of the service you have had from our doctors or staff, we would like to hear from you. Equally, if you are pleased with it, or have a suggestion for how we might improve, we are glad to be told.
What to tell us
We need to know the exact nature of the complaint. Please give as much detail as you can about the service provided, the individual or department involved, and why what we offered did not meet your expectations.
How to make a complaint
Make it in whichever form is most convenient to you, though we would rather receive the detail in writing than by telephone, so that all the facts are recorded correctly. Write to or email the Practice Manager:
- Practice Manager, Health Plus, Queens Road Health Centre, Queens Road, St Helier, Jersey JE2 4HY
- Email: healthplus@healthplus.gpnet.je
What happens next
We will acknowledge the complaint within 7 working days, and it is our intention to respond within 40 working days. Where a full response is not possible in that time, because the matter is complex or we have to consult a third party, we will keep you informed of the progress being made. Dr Philippa Bashforth is the responsible officer for complaints handling, with Dr Bryony Perchard as deputy. In all cases your correspondence is treated in strict confidence, with fairness and objectivity.
If you are still not satisfied
If your complaint is about one of our GPs and you remain dissatisfied after our procedure has run its course, you can take the matter further with the Primary Care Governance Team. You may also complain to them directly.

To give you the care you need we hold the details of your consultations, illnesses, tests, prescriptions and treatments, recorded by everyone involved in your care: your GP, the practice nurse, the health visitor. This is stored on paper and electronically by practice staff.
When we share your record

- With insurers or legal advisers, if you make a complaint about the treatment you received
- Where the law requires it, such as notification of births and deaths, certain infectious diseases and certain serious criminal offences
When we will not
We sometimes take part in studies designed to improve services or to check that our performance meets required standards. We also help teach students, nurses and doctors, and we will not use or disclose your information for that unless you have been told beforehand and have given your consent.
Seeing your own record
